Children’s Mother’s Day Craft, Saturday 3 March, 2 to 4pm
No need to book.

Worldwide Spin in Public DaySaturday 10 March, 2 to 4pm Join in the Worldwide Spin in Public Day with Sarah McAlister (FoWBL).  If you have one, bring your spinning wheel or spindle along too!  If you fancy having a go, then Sarah will show you how.  Children are welcome but must be supervised.     

Board Games Night, Friday 16 March, 7.30pm Admission free.  Refreshments (drinks and nibbles).  Please let us know if you want to attend (by e-mail, or by adding your name to a sign-up sheet at the library), so we have an idea of numbers.

Spring Flower Arranging, Saturday 24 March, 2 to 4pm Led by Alison Honor.  Limited places; £5 payable in advance.  Sign up in the library or by phone (020 8274 5789.  Please bring wither secateurs or scissors. 


COMPUTER CLASSES FOR BEGINNERS.  Mondays 1.00 -- 2.00 pm.  Booking essential.

READING OUT LOUD.  Mondays 5.00 -- 6.00 pm.  1:1 reading sessions for children aged 6+ . Term-time only. Booking essential.

SCRABBLE CLUB.  Mondays 5.00 -- 6.00 pm.  Come and join us every Monday - all ages and abilities welcome!  No booking required.

LOCAL HISTORY COFFEE MORNING.  Tuesday 20 March. 10.30 am -- 12 noon. Huguenot Heritage by Mick Taylor.

COMING SOON--LA JOLIE RONDE: EARLY YEARS SPANISH.  10.00 -- 10.30 am.  Please register interest with Susana on 07513-578887, or with Library staff.

KNIT & NATTER.  Thursdays 11.00 am -- 1.00 pm.  Bring your knitting or crochet. We are a small group of regular knitters. We also knit items for various charities or for sale to raise money for them. Last year we knitted outfits for the 'Fish & Chips' babies in Africa, hats and scarves for the homeless, and twiddle muffs for dementia sufferers. We also held four sales and raised and donated over £290 for the following groups: Hemi Help, Cinnamon Trust, Merton Independent Living, Wimbledon Friendship Group, Hydon Hill Cheshire Home, Friends of West Barnes Library. Free tea or coffee provided.

NEW OPEN COMMUNITY COFFEE AFTERNOON.  Third Thursday of the month (so 15 March this month), 1.30 -- 3.00pm.  Everyone welcome.

FALUN DAFA. Thursdays 5.30 -- 6.30 pm.  Falun Dafa or Falun Gong is a traditional Chinese qigong meditation practice to improve mind and body, with simple easy to learn exercises for all ages and abilities.  No booking required.

FABULOUS FRIDAYS!  Fridays 10.00 -- 10.45 am. 'MAKE MOVE & MELODY TIME' followed by BOOK TIME.  Go wild on Fridays as we tell stories, and sing familiar rhymes and songs.  For 18 months--5 yr olds (babies are welcome). 11.00 -- 11.45 am.

 'ROCK RHYME & RHYTHM TIME' Have fun on Fridays as we go on a journey singing, rhyming and rocking (followed by BOOK TIME, when we read, play, chat and chill); for 0--18 months (older children are welcome).  Term time only.  £1.50 per child.

KIDS' KNIT & NATTER.  First Saturday of the month (3 March), 12.30 -- 2.00pm.   Learn to knit.  For children adults welcome.

SPARKLE CLUB (temporarily suspended). Saturdays 2.30 -- 3.30 pm.  Local children's author Ian Cavill coaches and inspires youngsters in story writing.  Creative writing club for children aged 6-11.

COLOUR & CHAT.  Saturdays 2.00 -- 4.00 pm.  Relax, unwind and join the new colouring craze.

* * * * * * * *New Book Club?  We plan to introduce a second Book Club to focus just on a single fiction genre: probably Crime & Thrillers (as the most-borrowed category of books for adults at West Barnes).  Anyone interested in participating, please e-mail the Friends or sign up at the Library.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Can you spare a couple of hours occasionally?  Why not volunteer to help at West Barnes Library?  Volunteers are needed at a range of levels to assist staff - you could be helping keep the library open for the people of Motspur Park.  Training will be given.  For details and to apply, please ask at the library counter.

In particular, the Library seeks a Children's Story Time volunteer, to help support and assist with the planning, implementation and running of a children's storytime within the library.  If you're interested, please ask Library staff for further information.
